LEAP Technologies, Inc., to provide sales support for IonSense, Inc.’s Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART®) technology
For Immediate Release
Carrboro, North Carolina, (August 28, 2007) – LEAP Technologies and IonSense Inc (Saugus, Massachusetts) today announced an agreement where LEAP Technologies will provide sales and marketing support for DART® ionization source for use on MS instrumentation from a variety of vendors. The agreement provides IonSense with a knowledgeable sales staff to promote DART® technology to users of LC/MS instrumentation including systems from major supplies Thermo Fisher, Agilent, Applied Biosystems and Bruker. The agreement follows an earlier collaboration between the companies which led to introduction of a suite of products designed to facilitate high throughput surface desorption ionization with its direct analysis in real time (DART®) source. The products, introduced at Pittcon 2007, include: AutoDART™-96, an automated sample positioning robotic system, DIP-it™ Sampler, a consumable tip enabling rapid sampling, and the Walkabot™, a mobile workspace which enables easy movement of the DART® source between different LC/MS instruments.
LEAP Technologies provides automation solutions for the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. The company has commercialized a variety of novel analytical technologies through many partnerships with its customers. IonSense is responsible for commercialization of DART® technology invented at JEOL USA. “The agreement means that IonSense, a startup company, can concentrate on improving the DART® technology and work directly with LEAP where automation is desired” according to Dr. Brian Musselman, COO of the company, “while the sales team of LEAP provides access to end users that is critical to growth.”
“The team at LEAP recognizes that development of leading edge technologies is enabled when partners can work together to market and sell not just pieces, but solution generating products” according to Dr. Douglas Meinhart, CEO of IonSense.
LEAP will focus on working with customers in the Pharmaceutical and Food Processing industries looking to utilize DART® as an ionization source. Other markets include Forensic and Chemical industries. “Through our deep collaboration with IonSense LEAP can customize a high-throughput solution for analytical laboratories interested in taking advantage of DART®,” said Michael Sabatino, Distric Sales Manager of LEAP Technologies. “By automating the sample preparation and delivery to the MS instruments, LEAP can add higher efficiency, error reduction, and tighter specifications for our customers using IonSense’s technology.”
